Advice from the Lorax

Phew, that was an arduous election season. But even though we've barely caught our collective breath, another one is just around the corner. Half of Monona's City Council and the Mayor's seat will be up for re-election on April 1, 2025. Alders Doug Wood, Nancy Moore, and Rick Bernstein's seats will be up for grabs. If you're feeling compelled to step up as a public servant, here are some deadlines you need to know about.

The City of Monona's website is sparce on information but here's the link. For those interested in learning more, you'll want to contact Monona's City Clerk Alene Houser by calling 608-222-2525. More highly detailed information can be found at the Wisconsin Elections Commission website.

A list of forms that you would need to file to run for local office includes:

  • Campaign Registration Statement - you'll need to name your campaign treasurer; you may serve as your own treasurer or any adult can serve as your treasurer.

  • Declaration of Candidacy

  • Nomination Papers
